오는 9월, 드론 축구의 본고장 전주가 세계 최초의 드론 축구 월드컵을 개최한다. ‘FIDA 월드컵 전주 2025’는 9월 25일부터 28일까지 전주월드컵경기장과 인근 행사장에서 열리며, 전 세계 32개국에서 온 2,500여 명의 선수들이 참가한다.

이번 대회는 국토교통부, 전라북도, 전주시, 그리고 국제드론축구연맹(FIDA)이 공동 주최한다. 단순한 스포츠 경기를 넘어, 전주가 가진 문화와 관광 자원을 세계에 알리고 드론 산업의 미래를 함께 논의하는 장이 될 전망이다.

주요 경기는 드론 축구의 공식 규격인 클래스 40과 클래스 20 부문에서 국가대표와 클럽팀 간의 치열한 승부로 진행된다. 여기에 드론 축구와 장애물 레이싱을 결합한 시범 종목 ‘크레이싱(Cracing)’, 세계 최고의 드론 조종사를 가리는 ‘슈퍼 파일럿 대회’도 열린다.

대회 기간에는 드론 산업의 미래 발전 방향을 주제로 한 국제 심포지엄도 개최된다. 업계 전문가와 연구자들이 최신 기술과 동향을 공유하며, 방문객들은 최첨단 드론 기술을 직접 체험할 기회도 얻게 된다.

행사장 곳곳에서는 다양한 즐길 거리도 마련된다. 전주월드컵경기장 하늘을 수놓을 야간 드론 라이트 쇼, 전주의 멋과 흥을 담은 문화·예술 공연, 시민들이 직접 드론을 조종해보는 체험 프로그램 등이 대표적이다.

우범기 전주시장은 “이번 월드컵은 전주를 세계 드론 레저스포츠와 산업·관광의 중심지로 각인시키는 계기가 될 것”이라며, “모든 참가자와 방문객이 세계적 수준의 경험을 하고 돌아갈 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 이번 가을 전주는 드론 축구 월드컵 외에도 다채로운 축제를 통해 풍성한 계절을 선보인다. ‘전주 페스타 2025’의 일환으로 제8회 전주독서대전(9월 5~7일), 전주국제한지산업전(10월 2~4일), 전주아트난장페스티벌(10월 17~19일), 전주비빔밥축제(10월 24~26일), 전주막걸리축제(10월 31일~11월 1일) 등이 연이어 열린다.

세계 최초의 드론 축구 월드컵과 함께, 올가을 전주는 전통과 첨단, 문화와 기술이 어우러진 무대를 전 세계인 앞에 선보일 예정이다.

The World’s First Drone Soccer World Cup to Be Held in Jeonju This September

This September, Jeonju, the birthplace of drone soccer, will host the world’s first Drone Soccer World Cup. The “FIDA World Cup Jeonju 2025” will take place from September 25 to 28 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium and nearby venues, with more than 2,500 athletes from 32 countries set to participate.

The tournament is co-organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Jeonbuk Province, the City of Jeonju, and the Federation of International Drone Soccer Association (FIDA). Beyond being a global sporting event, it will also highlight Jeonju’s rich cultural heritage and serve as a platform to explore the future of the drone industry.

The main matches will be contested in the official Class 40 and Class 20 categories, featuring both national teams and club teams. Demonstration events will include “Cracing,” a hybrid of drone soccer and obstacle racing, as well as the “Super Pilot Competition,” which will determine the world’s top drone pilot.

An international symposium on the future of the drone industry will also be held during the tournament, bringing together experts and researchers to share insights and showcase cutting-edge drone technologies. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with these innovations through interactive experiences.

The event will also feature a variety of attractions. Highlights include a nighttime drone light show over Jeonju World Cup Stadium, cultural and artistic performances, and hands-on drone experience programs for the public.

Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-ki stated, “The FIDA World Cup Jeonju 2025 will be a landmark event that positions Jeonju as a global hub for drone leisure sports, industry, and tourism. We are committed to providing a world-class experience for all participants and visitors.”

This fall, Jeonju will also present a vibrant lineup of festivals alongside the Drone Soccer World Cup. As part of “Jeonju Festa 2025,” the city will host the 8th Jeonju Reading Expo (September 5–7), the Jeonju International Hanji Industrial Exhibition (October 2–4), the Jeonju Art Nanjang Festival (October 17–19), the Jeonju Bibimbap Festival (October 24–26), and the Jeonju Makgeolli Festival (October 31–November 1).

With the world’s first Drone Soccer World Cup and a season filled with cultural celebrations, Jeonju is set to showcase a unique blend of tradition and innovation to a global audience this autumn.
