덕수궁 석조전 일원 | Deoksugung Seokjojeon Area

석조전은 고종이 침전 겸 편전으로 사용하려고 세운 서양식 석조건물로, 영국인 건축가 하딩 (JR. Harding) 이 설계하여 1910년에 완공하였다. 기단 위에 이오니아식 기둥을 줄지어 세우고 중앙에 삼각형의 박공지능을 얹은 19세기 신고전주의 양식으로 지었다 건물의 전면과 등처 양면에 베란다를 실천한 것이 특징이다. 후에 미술관으로 사용했고 1939년에 서관을 중축하면서 그 앞에 서양식 분수 정원도 조성했다. 서관은 의석조로 지은 몸체 중앙에 코린트식 기둥의 현관을 덧붙인 모습이다.

Seokjojeon is a Western-style building used by King Gojong as sleeping quarters and an audience hall. Designed by J.R.Harding, a British architect. construction of Seokjojeon was completed in 1910. It was built in the 19th century neoclassical style, fronted with a colonnade of the Ionic style and topped with a triangular gabled roof. Later, Seokjojeon was used as an art museum. When the west wing was expanded in 1938, a Western-style garden with a fountain was created in the front. Corinthian columns stand in front of the entrance to the west wing.
