Nomination of “Gaya Tumuli" as a World Heritage Site passed the completeness check by the World Heritage Centre

The Korean Cultural Heritage Administration (Administrator Kim Hyun-mo) has announced that the nomination of "Gaya Tumuli" as a World Heritage Site it submitted in January of this year, with a goal to be inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2022, has passed the completeness check by the Secretariat to the World Heritage Committee (World Heritage Centre).

For nominations that have passed the completeness check, pursuant to Paragraph 140 of Operation Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention, will be evaluated through the document review of the Advisory Bodies, on-site mission, and two comprehensive discussions from March of that year to the first half of the following year.

As the evaluation of cultural heritage nomination is carried out by International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and natural heritage nomination by the International Natural Heritage Conservation Union (IUCN), "Gaya Tumuli" will be evaluated by ICOMOS.

After following the needed procedures, the Cultural Heritage Administration expects that the inscription of "Gaya Tumuli" will be decided in the 46th World Heritage Committee, which is to be held in July of 2022.

The Cultural Heritage Administration, along with the World Heritage Nomination Office for the Gaya Tumuli and the relevant local governments, will give the best efforts in the evaluation process for the inscription of the "Gaya Tumuli" as a World Heritage Site.
